Interview with Christian von Koenigsegg, founder of Koenigsegg at Beijing Auto Show.
Moderator: Hello, friends of Aika. Welcome to pay attention to the summit interview brought to you by Aika Automobile at the 21st auto china. First, please introduce yourself to my guest.
Christian von Koenigsegg: Hello, I’m Christian von Koenigsegg. I’m the founder and CEO of Koenigsegg, a Swedish supercar manufacturer. I’m very happy to participate in the 2012 auto china.
Moderator: You are also very welcome to our Aika Studio. First of all, please tell us about the models and some information brought by Koenigsegg at the Beijing Auto Show.
Christian von Koenigsegg: We are very honored to bring our Agera R 2013 supercar to the Beijing Auto Show. It is a product brought by our 17-year history and experience in developing automobiles, and it has very high performance.
Moderator: Besides this car, what other highlights are there in our booth?
Christian von Koenigsegg: Our booth is located in E4 venue, which is in a very good position, surrounded by booths of very famous brands. When fans come to our booth, they can not only see the real thing of our car, but also have a big screen for everyone to see the performance of our car driving on the actual track.
Compere: Koenigsegg is the top sports brand in the world, and some consumers may not know this brand very well. Could you please give us a brief introduction to the history and characteristics of this brand?
Christian von Koenigsegg: I started Koenigsegg Company in 1994, when I was only 22 years old. I had a dream to build my own sports car since I was a child, so I started my first company, the trading company, when I was 19 years old. After I got enough funds, I realized my dream of building my own sports car at the age of 22. I didn’t build this car to compete with any brands and cars, but to realize my dream car and find people who share my dreams to cooperate with.
Compere: As a top sports car brand, many other sports car brands will take part in some international automobile races or promote some high-end automobile sports. Does Koenigsegg have its own plans or measures in this regard?
Christian von Koenigsegg: Of course, we mainly let them participate in these events by making these cars. We have already made GT1 cars, and our main strategy is to produce these products and let them be used in competitions.
Compere: Koenigsegg made its first appearance in China at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2005. At present, when and in what form will Koenigsegg officially enter the China market to sell its products?
Christian von Koenigsegg: We participated in the Shanghai Auto Show for the first time in 2005, and it received a good response at that time. After several years of planning, we cooperated with Beijing Hengxiang Yongrui Trading Co., Ltd. to officially sell our models in Beijing last year. This year’s performance greatly exceeded our expectations. Now we only have an exhibition hall in Beijing, and next we will expand our sales network in Shanghai and other cities.
Moderator: You just said that the sales situation exceeded your expectations. Can you tell us something about the existing sales situation? And the sales target for 2012?
Christian von Koenigsegg: We sold seven cars in one year, and orders kept coming in. This is of course a very good market, and we hope to have better sales.
Moderator: Many supercars have launched customized models in China, such as Ferrari. Does Koenigsegg have any plans to launch customized models in China?
Christian von Koenigsegg: Actually, every car we have is a car, which is customized according to customers’ requirements, so we are very happy to customize this kind of car for customers in China.
Compere: Please explain from your point of view what advantages your sports car has compared with cars like Bugatti and pagani?
Christian von Koenigsegg: Koenigsegg is famous for combining all kinds of unique personalities. We are a super sports car that pays great attention to practicality. It can be used as both a sports car and a business car, and we can disassemble the top and put it in the trunk to become an open sports car. Accelerating these performances is the first in the world, and all these performances can be combined.
Moderator: We know that some top super-running brands have already carried out experience day marketing, such as track day and some track activities. Will Koenigsegg bring experience marketing to China?
Christian von Koenigsegg: Actually, we are also carrying out this kind of activities. Not long ago, we held a racing activity at the track in Shanghai. We will invite some customers to the exhibition hall to see our products and so on. Of course, the whole activity is relatively small, because our car output is relatively small.
Moderator: We know that Koenigsegg is a brand from Sweden. What are the main partners in spare parts during the actual production of automobiles? Or is building a car more from yourself? Or is it a collection of global technologies?
Christian von Koenigsegg: I can say that all our engineering design and manufacturing are produced by ourselves, and all our development and testing are done by ourselves. Of course, some of us are mainly from local suppliers in Sweden. This is different from others. Everything is developed and produced by ourselves.
Moderator: In recent years, many luxury cars are keen to launch SUV models, such as Lamborghini. As Koenigsegg, have you considered launching your own SUV models in the future?
Christian von Koenigsegg: So it’s not on our agenda at present, but we will still expand the product line to expand the company, but it’s too big for the company to cross into the SUV field, and we still want to focus on improving the performance of the car itself.
Moderator: Back to the initial question, Koenigsegg has already sold a certain amount in China, and the global market is also growing. What situation will Koenigsegg increase its output in the future? Expand the scale of their sales in the country?
Christian von Koenigsegg: This problem is very good, and we are gradually realizing it. At present, the output is far behind the demand, but it is very good for us. Fortunately, there is still enough room for the expansion of the factory building and the surrounding land can continue to expand, so we will continue to expand our factory building to increase our output to meet the increasing demand.
Compere: As a top super sports car brand, each car factory has its own unique technical style and characteristics. Finally, please explain to us the latest technology and selling points of Koenigsegg brand?
Christian von Koenigsegg: First of all, we use carbon fiber to make the car body, so the car is very light, and the power design makes the wind resistance very low and the speed can reach the highest. In addition, our engine is completely self-developed, from design, adjustment and design, our engine is very compact and very light.
