Shanghai: the story of three generations of model workers in "model community"

"Post-70s" Su Rong: She is the community female version of "Li Yunlong".
It was night when I returned to Shanghai from the commendation meeting in Beijing, and my family had already fallen asleep. "In their view, I can be a model worker, and the whole world is a model worker!" Su Rong burst out laughing and whispered, "Although I am running happily in the community, I will be lazy at home."
Su Rong, born in 1972, is the general party branch secretary of Changchun residential area in Tianlin Street. He has been a social worker at the grassroots level for 18 years. Because of his bright temper, he is affectionately called "Su Daxia" by the residents.
"I am lucky, and hard bones are always bitten by me." The first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Xuhui District happened in Su Rong’s district, which is one of the earliest confirmed cases in Shanghai, and there is no ready-made experience for reference.
At that time, all kinds of epidemic prevention materials were already very tight. Su Rong, a medical student, took two ponchos from home, wore a mask and brought disinfectant, and went to help the family collect garbage, and then rushed to the hospital on a moped to deliver materials to patients. As a result, Su Rong, who just left after putting down the "materials", received a phone call from the patient: she was "as fierce as a tiger", put the garbage in the hospital and brought the materials back.
At first, I was really a little scared, but "Su Daxia" quickly calmed down. "Who hasn’t had a half bucket of water after SARS and bird flu?"
After coming back, she called all the neighborhood cadres in the community for the first time-"Come back! Party member and the men go first, but I am the captain of the first echelon. I fell, you are all the captains of the second echelon! "
A vigorous community epidemic prevention war started, and Su Rong basically did not take a vacation for more than 100 days. This female secretary, who grew up in the northwest and came to Shanghai in her twenties, showed her delicate side with a loud voice and high tone.
The patient’s family members took their children home for isolation, and Su Rong judged that they must be very nervous. She comforted her family members with her own "indigenous method" of community work-"Every night, I call each other to sing, no matter whether I sing well or not, I will listen first."
At first, Su Rong sang the classic excerpts of Shanghai Opera "Open a Window for You" and "Four Crossing Chishui and Out of the Raiders" about the Red Army, and sang the lyrics of "Hengduan Mountain, the road is difficult to walk". Su Rong was wrong. Isn’t this an increase in psychological burden? She immediately changed to the most popular online "Left Hand Pointing at the Moon" and "Red Sarilang", and sang "Smurfs" to her children. Su Rong named it in a serious way, which is called "psychological comfort method".
Sending supplies to patients’ families, she said that she was like a "thief" and climbed upstairs quietly. "To protect their privacy, their psychological pressure is actually very great, and they don’t want to cause panic to other residents."
At first, some community cadres were afraid of difficulties and unwilling to help participate in community disinfection work. Su Rong didn’t go straight to the ideological education work. On the contrary, every time she disinfected, she not only rushed to the front line, but also encouraged community cadres and blooming flowers in the community to "take selfies" and sent photos to the work group every day. On the one hand, let all residents see that neighborhood cadres have always been there; On the other hand, those community cadres who have never "taken selfies" later blushed and asked to join the team.
"It’s called playing hard to get." Su Rong said.
Later, no matter which neighborhood Committee had questions, they were the first to call Su Rong. Once, the neighborhood Committee next door also found a confirmed case. Su Rong came to the hospital to see that the community workers were going into the ward, but the protective equipment was average, so she took a vest bag and put it on the other person’s head. "No problem, anytime, I am your 12345." Su Rong said.
Su Rong, who has worked in several communities, is particularly good at "handling contradictions" in the eyes of local cadres and masses. And Su Rong’s secret is: As long as she can do things for the residents, anyone can go to "theory theory".
Since 2004, Su Rong has served as the general party branch secretary of five residential areas, each of which is a "hard bone" with many contradictions. The pavement of a residential area has been in disrepair for a long time due to early design defects, resulting in potholes in the main road, so there are many contradictions between the property and the industry Committee. Neighborhood committees, property management committees and industry committees are commonly known as the "troika" in residential areas, and the three horses run separately, so the problem has to be put on hold again and again.
Su Rong ignored these difficulties, and went to party member, poor families and key residents’ homes in the community. Whoever was most "against" the neighborhood committee, she would start from there first. More than 100 households have gone in three months, and three or four hundred hours have been spent on the residents with the most concentrated contradictions. A member of the industry Committee was always unwilling to cooperate out of self-interest. Su Rong and the neighborhood Committee and the industry Committee secretly pulled a small group and set a "military order": the group must be expanded to more than 150 people in one night, and the consent of the owners should be collected in the group. As a result, she really did it!
At the time of SARS, Su Rong was only in her early thirties. What made her famous in the residential area was the contest with an American executive. At first, the executive didn’t cooperate with the community epidemic prevention. Su Rong said sternly: "Please put on a mask and talk to me again." The other party was impressed by Su Rong’s momentum and asked who she was. After receiving the answer "I am a community worker in China", the American executive lamented: "China social workers are amazing."
Su Rong has been honored as a model worker in Shanghai, an outstanding party worker in Shanghai, and a red flag bearer on March 8th in Shanghai. She is also a community celebrity. "Has life changed?" The reporter asked her.
"There are more honors, and there are more people who invite me out to give lectures; If the lecture fee is more, you can do more public welfare for the residents. Because’ buy and burn’ is borne by the husband, the salary must be strictly handed over to him. " Su Rong laughed heartily again.
"Post-80s" Fang Jin: A "One Punch" Superman in the Bus Industry
There are three round trips a day, each round trip has 49 platforms, with a total of 147 bus stops. Every time the bus stops at the station, the car body keeps a precise "one punch" distance from the platform.
As the "No.1 car" driver of Shanghai’s most famous red bus line No.71, Fang Jin always keeps this standard in mind: this distance can make it easier for passengers to get on and off.
The bus driver is not as simple as imagined. Behind the boring work day after day is the meticulous work that goes deep into the bone marrow, and finally forms a kind of "muscle memory", which is Fang Jin’s "ingenuity".
Fang Jin, born in 1982, has been an "old driver" who has been driving buses for 16 years, from the earliest gasoline car that needs to stand up to twist the steering wheel when turning corners, to driving diesel cars, "braided cars" (trams) and now to the medium-volume new energy trams.
Route 71, which was opened in 1949 and reopened in 2017, passes through many well-known red landmarks in Shanghai along the way. It is a route that bus drivers want to run. The assessment standard is naturally harsh: it requires more than 5 years of driving experience, 300,000 kilometers of safe mileage, and age restrictions.
Even an "old driver" like Fang Jin still has to learn again-take the tram’s N driver’s license, practice and memorize traffic regulations, and "learn 1400 questions again".
This is just the beginning.
After the operation ends at 11: 30 pm, it leaves at 4: 30 am the next day, and the five hours in the middle are the opportunities for the "novice" to do the task. The direction of the switch, the position of the platform … An 18-meter bus is like a dragon. If the platform has a radian, how to throw the "car butt" into it is even more technical, and each person may only be able to practice for an hour every night.
This hour is especially precious for Fang to come in. In order to pass the examination, he practiced driving at night for a month in a row, trying to "punch" in place every time.
The biggest influence on him is his teacher, another "model worker" Xu Meiling.
Master Xu has a treasure bag, which contains sewing kits, motion sickness medicine and other items. At first, Fang Jin couldn’t understand: bus conductor, what are you doing with these? Once, a white-collar worker flushed in the carriage and started the action of "Golden Rooster Independence". Master Xu took out a band-aid from his treasure bag and handed it to him. It turned out that the white-collar worker’s feet were worn out by high heels and he needed a band-aid.
Let customers feel silent care, which is the trait Fang Jin learned from the master.
So he designed a large number of "tricks" to save passengers’ worry: it is unsafe for the elderly to pull out their cards after getting on the bus, so they designed a neck-hanging contraction card sleeve for them; On the steps of getting on and off, reflective banners and anti-slip strips are covered; Passing through the school for blind children, he pointed the door at the school gate to pick up the blind children.
Because of these special "care", those passengers who randomly stepped onto this car seem to have inadvertently entered Fang Jin’s life: there are happy events at home, and old passengers may leave a box of happy eggs and a pack of happy cigarettes at the dispatching station; The fruit stall owner felt cared for and secretly left a box of fruit at the dispatching station …
The most dramatic thing is that one day a few years ago, an old lady asked him if he was in love. Fang Jin said no. A few days later, the old lady handed him a note saying that she had taken Fang Jin’s car with her daughter. This is her daughter’s QQ number. I hope he can contact me. Today, this passenger has become the mother of Fang Jin’s child.
"Being a full-time driver for ordinary people", in Fang Jin’s view, is something that can make people happy for a lifetime.
All bus drivers of No.71 have a tacit understanding: every Saturday morning at Wubao Road bus stop around 7: 00, they should pinch their points and try to wait for a fixed passenger.
Fang Jin has been insisting on such a move for two years. At that time, an aunt who is over 500 years old will push a wheelchair and send her son to the Armed Police Hospital for hemodialysis. If the bus is coming, Fang Jin sees that the aunt hasn’t arrived at the platform yet, so she consciously slows down and waits for a red light so that she can push over and get on the bus.
Fang Jin still doesn’t know the aunt’s name, and aunt doesn’t know why she always gets on the bus on time every time.
"A little warmth from strangers inadvertently, this is the bus at home." Fang Jin said.
"Post-70s" Wang Cheng: My Swedish colleague said I was a "Chinese Hero" (China hero).
To attend the commendation meeting in Beijing, the first step for Wang Cheng is to explain his reasons for leave to Andy, the Swedish store manager. Colleagues talked noisily for a long time, and Andy said, "I know! The model worker is Chinese Hero (China Hero). " So that when Andy came back from the commendation meeting, he heard that Wang Cheng had brought several model workers of the same period to the company for communication, and he asked for a group photo, because it was a "Chinese Heroes Team".
Wang Cheng is the trade union chairman and safety risk manager of Shanghai IKEA Co., Ltd., and has worked in IKEA for 15 years so far. When joining the company, this foreign-funded enterprise just entered the China market for a short time. "IKEA is an internal cycle, and its dependence on the outside was very low in the past. It is equivalent to closing the door and closing the window at first, and slowly I am willing to invite you to sit down. " Wang Cheng said.
In Wang Cheng’s view, the trade union is not a place that only engages in cultural and sports activities and is loved by the masses, but a platform for employees to speak out and make reasonable demands on reasonable occasions.
Less than a year after joining the trade union, with the support of the workers, Wang Cheng had an idea of "going out of the circle": he decided to represent the trade union and the workers and put forward suggestions for collective consultation to the company’s administrative side.
At that time, the manager was a French manager, who supported the cultural and sports activities of the trade union, but was biased against the trade union work in China. As expected, the management tactfully refused this request.
Negotiations on rights and interests have never been smooth sailing. Empathy, many concerns of the management, is not intentional. Wang Cheng collected a large number of data, examples, policies and regulations, sought to communicate with management again and again, and seized all opportunities that might explore the advantages and necessity of collective negotiation. The management finally sat down at the negotiating table and held equal consultations with Wang Cheng and the staff representatives.
Wang Cheng elaborated on the importance of improving work efficiency and employee satisfaction, and introduced many suggestions of employees on improving enterprise management. Soon, the management realized that the employees didn’t make excessive demands during the negotiation, and "they didn’t come to engage in confrontation". It is a mutual benefit and win-win situation for both enterprises and employees to sign collective contracts.
On May 29th, 2012, IKEA Co., Ltd. signed the first collective contract in East China, covering 750 employees of IKEA Shanghai in Xuhui and Beicai, Pudong. In this hard-won collective contract, even the details of making small safety shoes for every female cashier are written in it, which has become an effective barrier to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of IKEA employees.
From communication, confrontation, and blending, today, IKEA stores all over China have successively established trade unions and signed collective contracts with employees.
With the help of this practice of "pulling enterprises with one hand and employees with the other", Wang Cheng has a more "out of the circle" idea: using trade unions and other platforms to integrate enterprises, residents and communities more deeply.
Tianlin Street in Xuhui District, where IKEA is located, was established in 1985. Many infrastructures in residential areas are relatively old and cannot meet the needs of surrounding residents.
"Can we move IKEA to the community?"
Is it difficult to park in the old city? Under the coordination, IKEA Xuhui Shopping Mall opened the underground parking garage to residents at night, providing "tidal" parking service;
Is it difficult for enterprises to build their own "Love Mommy Cabin"? We sent IKEA designers to the training camp of public welfare projects of the Municipal Federation of Trade Unions to teach them, and designed a star-rated construction "menu" for enterprises, so that enterprises can "order food" according to the model rooms and give priority to distribution and installation. Now more than 2,000 enterprises have joined the "love package".
In Wang Cheng’s view, the prerequisite for "going out of the circle" is "win-win" and finding the balance point of deep integration between enterprises and communities. Nowadays, IKEA feels more and more like a part of the community, and actively participates in various comprehensive management work of the community.
With the support of the street, Wang Cheng organized several colleagues who are familiar with IKEA products, and visited and measured one neighborhood Committee after another to understand the needs of community work and match the design style and price suitable for the community. Some neighborhoods in Tianlin Street, such as Xiaohui, Party construction service station and activity room in residential area, have brand-new public "living room" design, which breaks the original administrative mode and creates a "home away from home" in an open and interactive way.
"IKEA’s vision has always been to create a better daily life for the public. We hope that corporate vision can be combined with real social services, so that foreign-funded enterprises and communities can be deeply integrated, developed together and shared." Wang Cheng said.
Chen Qingyun, a post-90s generation, loves only one chemical element for 70 years.
On the top floor of an old house in the tenth village of Tianlin, an old couple’s house is particularly quiet. They seldom go out for a walk and there is little noise in the house. Neighbors don’t know that Academician Chen Qingyun, who lives here, is one of the founders in the field of organic fluorine chemistry in China.
Chen Lao is 91 years old this year, but he still goes to work in Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning, taking doctors and masters, doing projects, reading literature, helping students revise the opening report and attending group meetings all the time. Most of the rest of the time, he stayed quietly in his room to study the literature on fluorine chemistry. From his twenties to now, Chen Lao has been insisting on fluorine chemistry research for nearly 70 years.
In 1956, Chen Qingyun went to Moscow to study for an associate doctorate. Before entering the laboratory, the teacher taught him Russian one by one. At that time, it happened to catch up with the Soviet satellite, and the first word I learned from my teacher was "satellite".
"At that time, I felt that national strength is closely related to scientific and technological innovation, and scientific and technological innovation cannot be separated from basic research." Chen Qingyun said.
In 1950s, fluororubber, a new chemical material needed for the "two bombs and one satellite" project, could be used in cutting-edge technologies such as aviation, missiles and rockets, and industrial fields such as instruments and machinery. Dupont of the United States successfully realized commercial production in 1948, but it has been blocking China.
After returning to China, Chen Qingyun was responsible for the method of obtaining a component in fluororubber. At that time, this ingredient needed to be produced by electrolysis, which was laborious and laborious. With the unremitting efforts of Chen Qingyun and the team, a new method was found two or three years later. Until today, the whole world is still using this new method for synthesis.
Although the scientific research achievements have gone from the laboratory to the factory, Chen Lao still often talks about his two major regrets: First, the theoretical reserves are not enough. If he goes to college again, he will definitely learn more basic subjects such as physics and mathematics; Second, the application has not been done enough.
In his view, the "first mile" of basic research is very important, and the "last mile" of effective convergence of results transformation and market application is equally important. For decades, he has always stressed to his students that "after all, you have to do something useful to society."
"I went to DuPont to visit and praised them for their good work. They said that our boss had money, and the money he earned was not satisfied with making money this year and next year, but invested in it and made a lot of money ten years later. Therefore, DuPont is awesome and doesn’t make small money. " Chen Qingyun said that our current basic research must also consider how to transform and apply. "Scientific research will eventually go from bottles and cans to factories and to places that play a role in the national economy."
In 2017, an Irish chemist published a paper in an academic magazine, detailing the research and application of a chemical reagent "Chen Reagent" developed by Chen Lao. The author believes that this effective reagent has not been fully utilized, and hopes to make more readers notice it through comments.
After reading the article, Chen Lao was not only not happy because his research was concerned by international peers, but worried. "The article said that’ Chen Reagent’ is a forgotten reagent, which reflects from one side that there are still many obstacles to break through from basic research to factory application. These difficulties are what every researcher needs to overcome. "
With the continuous efforts of Chen Lao and his team for 70 years, at the beginning of this century, foreign colleagues gave the team studying fluorine in Shanghai a special title-"Shanghai fluorine chemistry". As long as it is a colleague in this field, everyone knows this powerful research team.
"We have three’ gold standards’ for academic research: The First, which you first discovered; The most, you do the most; The best, you did the best. " Chen Qingyun said that everyone in the team uses this "gold standard" to demand themselves. "In the end, we don’t look at the title, we don’t seek recognition, we look at whether we have done original and leading work, forming a point, a line or even a face in China, and ultimately driving a group."
Although Chen Qingyun has retired for many years, he still insists on attending various academic conferences and reading the latest academic literature. In the eyes of his students, Chen Lao seems to be an encyclopedia with a huge amount of reading. When a student encounters a problem, Chen Lao can tell which latest document is related to this problem.
"If I haven’t read the literature for a week, I will be in a panic. So many new materials, I can’t finish reading them even without sleeping! People live to be eager for new knowledge, otherwise it will be boring. " Chen Qingyun said. (Reporter Joline)
